What It Is:
The GridTalkie system allows you to communicate in realtime anywhere in SecondLife between friends. It works like a walkie-talkie or IRC client.
It is a suitable alternative to Group IM (which can fail horribly, takes time to set up, can’t invite new users, etc) and an affordable solution for
keeping in touch with your friends, anywhere in the grid.
It is a suitable alternative to Group IM (which can fail horribly, takes time to set up, can’t invite new users, etc) and an affordable solution for
keeping in touch with your friends, anywhere in the grid.
By ‘anywhere’, we mean you can stand in one sim, your buddy can stand in another sim, next door or on another continent, and talk to eachother using GridTalkies set to the same gridchannel. Even better, multiple buddies set to the same channel can talk to eachother, in realtime (3-10 seconds latency in normal conditions).
Why It’s Better Than Group IM:
- You don’t have to start a new conference to add members or pick up crashed friends.
- You don’t have to add people to a group, your friends list, ETC in order to set up a chat.
- It won’t randomly fail to start, fail to deliver messages, or freeze your client to tell you it failed.
- You don’t all have to be in the same group or same circle of friends, you just need to have a GridTalkie.
- It’s easier to bang out a transmission. You just type /3 (message) in chat. Instead of opening the communications window, picking the right tab (worse in Viewer 2.0), etc, etc.
Who It’s Good For:
- Roleplayers that RP across multiple sims.
- Security, Law Enforcement, Military, and PMCs
- Pilots and Air Traffic Control operators.
- Multi-sim Administration Groups
- Anyone fed up w/ group chat but still needs to keep in touch.
